Wisdom Teeth Removal Near Carson
The third and last molars to erupt in the mouth are the wisdom teeth. In many cases, these final molars arrive without any issues and may be maintained for a lifetime. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Wisdom teeth are the most common “healthy” teeth that need removal. This is due to complications during eruption or the oral health issues they can create. At Torrance Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, we welcome our patients from Carson to visit us when they need wisdom teeth removal.
Wisdom teeth come in a set of four and usually arrive in the late teens or early twenties. These are the largest type of molar, with up to four roots connecting them to the jaw bone. Removal can be difficult, especially if the roots are twisted or the wisdom tooth is partially or completely impacted.
Almost all wisdom tooth extractions are referred to an oral surgeon due to the possible complications that can occur. Dr. Yagoubian receives many referrals from dentists in the Carson area to perform this procedure for their patients. His expertise as an oral surgeon can minimize the risks of this procedure, using advanced imaging and techniques to successfully complete wisdom teeth extractions.
When Do Wisdom Teeth Need Extraction?
If wisdom teeth are healthy and do not pose an oral health risk, they can be left in place. It is when they cause problems during eruption that most are removed. Impacted wisdom teeth are those that do not completely erupt through the gums or emerge in the wrong direction. These impacted molars can cause pain, infection, cysts and misalignments, requiring removal to protect the oral health of the patient.
In some cases, wisdom teeth arrive without issue but later become a problem. These back molars can be difficult to clean and are prone to decay and bacterial infection. Some people may need wisdom teeth removed later in life to minimize risk of gum disease or reoccurring dental issues with these large molars.
