Wisdom Teeth Removal Near San Pedro
Wisdom teeth can be a source of pain and oral health problems when they do not erupt correctly. Many people in their late teens or early adulthood suffer from impacted wisdom teeth or have other problems associated with these last molars. If you live in San Pedro and need wisdom teeth removal, come see our team at Torrance Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center. We offer a safe, comfortable environment with trained oral surgery specialists to perform your wisdom teeth extraction procedure.
Some people have ample room in their mouths to receive their last four molars. However, due to genetics or other problems, some wisdom teeth do not grow in as expected. This can cause shifting in the existing teeth, infection, cysts and other oral health problems. Removal of the wisdom teeth can alleviate these issues.
For removal of wisdom teeth, Dr. Yagoubian uses 3-D CT scan imaging to plan and complete this surgery. This allows him to predict any possible issues, such as twisted roots or impaction to reduce risks and complications. We use IV sedation or general anesthesia during the procedure to help alleviate any stress or anxiety for our patients.
Types of Wisdom Tooth Impaction
The most common reason wisdom teeth need removal is due to impaction. This is when the wisdom teeth do not completely erupt. There are three main types of impaction, each requiring specific oral surgery methods to remove for the safety of the patient. These include:
- Soft tissue impaction – the molars have erupted through the jaw bone, but are impacted in the gum tissue.
- Partial bony impaction – the molars are partially impacted in the jaw bone.
- Complete bony impaction – the molars are mostly surrounded by bone.
